Update on REA Landscaping Committee Projects for 2025

At the board’s request the landscaping committee put our 2025 landscaping contract out
for bids. We met with two well regarded landscaping companies in January. This
included Greener Image which has done the work for the past 13 years. After reviewing
final proposals, we recommended to the REA board that In and Out (Johnson and Sons) be
awarded the annual contract. This will result in substantial savings and there should be
no noticeable changes in the services provided.
Both firms pointed out that the fall drought has stressed the shrubs and trees in our
entrance planting beds and the two circles. The committee has discussed with
neighboring owners providing water to these landscaped areas. Ideas are currently
under discussion. With access to water, we intend to better care for the existing plants
and also introduce drought resistant annual and perennial flowers to some or all of these
areas for seasonal color.
Before new mulch is added to these areas early this spring, the large rocks in the
Joshua Lane circle will be relocated to the edges of the circle to prevent vehicles from
driving over the mulch and plants. This work was done a few years ago on the Rivers
Edge circle, which has worked well. In addition, the large rhododendron in the Joshua
Lane circle, following the bloom this summer, will be hard pruned to approximately four
feet. They are very large and are crowding the holly and other shrubs. It will take
approximately two growing seasons until they are fully filled in.
